Ceremony Instructions for Faculty

Instructions for the Baccalaureate and Commencement ceremonies are included below.

If you plan to process in the Commencement ceremony, please arrive attired in a cap, gown, and hood. Rental attire is available from the Stanford Bookstore. Orders may be placed online February 9-May 1. For more information, please visit the Caps & Gowns page.

 

Baccalaureate Ceremony

Memorial Church

The Baccalaureate celebration on Saturday morning is a multi-faith ceremony – a time of thanksgiving and reflection for graduates, their families, and friends. The celebration begins at 9:30 a.m.

Faculty members do not process at this ceremony but are invited to attend and share time with graduating students and their families. For more information on this year’s ceremony and keynote speaker visit the Baccalaureate homepage.

Academic attire is not required for this event. No tickets or RSVP required.

Commencement Ceremony

Stanford Stadium

The Commencement ceremony will be held in the Stanford Stadium. President Hennessy and the keynote speaker, Anthony M. Kennedy associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, Stanford alumnus, and a long-time legal educator, will address the assemblage. Degrees will be conferred to all graduates.

Faculty that wish to process should first RSVP by filling out the online RSVP & Ticket Order Form on the Faculty Information page.

Academic attire is required for all faculty that will process in the ceremony. If you are in need of rental attire, please visit the Caps & Gowns page to order your cap, gown, and hood.

On the day of the ceremony, faculty should arrive to the Sunken Diamond dressed in academic attire by 9:00 am. Faculty marshals will be available to instruct and assist you with procession details at that time.

Weekend Ceremonies General Information

Personal Items: There is no place to leave valuables such as coats, sweaters, purses, or cameras during the Commencement weekend ceremonies. If you bring these items, please plan to carry them with you.

Smoking: No smoking is allowed during the processions or in the seating areas during Commencement weekend ceremonies.

Pets: No pets are allowed in the ceremony locations except for service animals working with persons
who have disabilities.

Golf Carts: No golf carts will be allowed in the Stadium. If you have mobility concerns, please make arrangements to be driven down to the Stadium field by a member of the Diversity & Access Office who will be stationed at the Gate 1 of the Stadium.
