A Letter from
President John L. Hennessy

April 2009

Dear Members of the Faculty, University Officers and Deans:

Stanford University’s 118th Commencement ceremony will be in the Stanford Stadium and will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 14. I encourage you to march in the faculty procession. Your participation shows support for our students and is much appreciated by graduates and their families. I hope this early notice of the weekend schedule will enable you to participate.

Immediately following the ceremony in the stadium, departments will conduct Individual Diploma Award ceremonies and receptions for graduates and their families.

I also invite you to attend the Saturday Commencement Weekend events. The Baccalaureate celebration will be held at the Main Quadrangle at 9:30 a.m. This multi-faith celebration is a time of thanksgiving and reflection for students and their families.

Later that day, Andrea and I hope you will join us at the annual garden reception for degree candidates, their families and friends. It will be held in the Hoover House garden from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Commencement Weekend is an opportunity for graduates to celebrate this special occasion with members of the Stanford faculty.

If you plan to participate in the processional at the Commencement ceremony, further instructions are available at http://commencement.stanford.edu/faculty or by contacting Stanford Events at 650-725-1957.

I look forward to seeing you at Commencement.

Sincerely,

John L. Hennessy
