In Case of Rain
The following information applies ONLY in case of rain.
The decision to use the rain plan will be made several days before the Baccalaureate celebration and the Commencement
ceremony. Signs will be posted confirming rain
plan information. Announcements will be made on radio stations, including Stanford’s KZSU 90.1 FM and the Stanford telephone exchange will be informed.
The following procedures will be observed:
Saturday, June 14 – Baccalaureate Celebration
and Other Events
Baccalaureate Celebration
– The event will begin in Maples Pavilion at 9:30 a.m.
- Degree Candidates–At 9:00 a.m., please
proceed to the front seating area of Maples Pavilion, where marshals will
direct you to your places.
- Official Party and Trustees–Assemble at Maples Pavilion, where staff will direct you to your places.
- President’s Section (ticket holders)–Ushers
will direct you to special reserved seating.
- Guests–Ushers will direct guests to remaining
seating.
Class Day Lecture 2008 – This event will be held in Maples Pavilion.
Graduation Picnic – This event will be held in Maples Pavilion. Further information will be provided at Class Day Lecture 2008.
President’s Reception – If the weather is too inclement, this event will not be held.
Sunday, June 15– Commencement Ceremony in Stanford Stadium
There will be no procession. All graduates should proceed
directly to Stadium Gate 1 to receive instructions regarding seating and be seated in the Stadium no later than 9:50
a.m. The Commencement ceremony will begin
at 10:00 a.m.
The ceremony will still include the Commencement address; conferral of
degrees; announcement of the Gores, Dinkelspiel, and Cuthbertson awards; remarks
by President Hennessy; and the benediction. All participants are encouraged to have an umbrella handy
(umbrellas are allowed only in case of rain).
For those who wish to be indoors, Maples Pavilion, Memorial Auditorium, and the Arrillaga Center for Sports and Recreation's Erickson Courts will
be open. Please note: Seating will be extremely limited.
A live video broadcast of the ceremony will be aired in Maples Pavilion. A live audio broadcast of the ceremony will be aired in
Memorial Auditorium and in the Arrillaga Center for Sports and Recreation's Erickson Courts by campus radio, KZSU 90.1 FM.
Sunday, June 15– Individual Diploma
Award Ceremonies
Following the Commencement
ceremony, departments will hold
Individual Diploma Award ceremonies at various locations
around campus throughout the afternoon.
Please Note: The times and locations of some of the diploma
ceremonies and receptions may be changed. A
list of alternate venues and times will be available at all
the Commencement Information Centers, which are listed in the Commencement program you will receive at the ceremony. Alternate venues
and times will also be announced on campus radio, KZSU
90.1 FM., Stanford's Visitor Information Center (located in Memorial Auditorium) and your department administrator will also have this information.
