A Commencement Weekend update for 2020 Graduates - Nov. 22, 2021

Main content start

Nov. 22, 2021

Dear Stanford 2020 graduates,

As you pursue new journeys beyond the Farm, preparations are underway to welcome you, your friends and family members back to Stanford for a traditional Commencement Weekend on June 10-12, 2022.

First, if you have not done so already, please fill out this short form to help us gauge attendance at events during weekend. Your input is important and will help the university plan a memorable and meaningful weekend for you, your classmates, and your guests.

Here are some additional details and opportunities about your weekend back on the Farm.

Your ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. PDT, Saturday, June 11, in Stanford Stadium. The Baccalaureate celebration and Senior Dinner on the Quad for undergraduate degree holders will be June 10.

Lodging. We have arranged for a limited block of discounted hotel rooms in various areas around the Bay Area. They are now available for 2020 graduates on a first-come, first-served basis. Click here for details and to book any of these hotel rooms directly.

Financial assistance. Limited support for travel, lodging and/or family travel may be available for students who received full financial aid during their last year at Stanford and continue to have a financial hardship. Please fill out this form to apply for support.

Registration. Please note that public health protocols will require all graduates, family members and guests to register for events. More information about when and how to register will be shared in an upcoming communication. Campus COVID protocols will be in place but there will be no limits on the number of family members and friends who may attend Commencement. Stanford will continue to monitor regional conditions and applicable rules and will advise you of any relevant changes in health policy.

As a reminder, any 2021 graduates who were unable to attend their in-person ceremony earlier this year will also be able to participate in the Class of 2020 Baccalaureate and Commencement. The Commencement ceremony for 2022 graduates, on June 12, and other corresponding events will be held separately. However, some department, school and program gatherings during the weekend may be conducted jointly with other classes.

We are continuing to work out other aspects of the weekend including the keynote speakers. You will be able to find updates, additional details and FAQs on the Commencement 2020 website.

Having graduates from three years – 2020, 2021 and 2022 – on campus will make for an especially vibrant, exciting time of celebration. It also adds some complexities. So, again, your input on the attendance survey is critical to our plans to welcome you back.

We’ll look forward to hearing from you now and will be in touch again early in 2022 to share further updates.
