Graduation Gear at the Stanford Bookstore
Academic attire is required to participate in many Commencement Weekend activities and is available to rent or purchase from the Stanford Bookstore. The vast majority rent regalia, and those who regularly participate in Commencement exercises, such as faculty, may opt to purchase.
Important Dates and Deadlines
Student Deadlines
Monday, April 13: Student rental regalia website opens for ship-to-home orders
Tuesday, April 14 (10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.): Grad Fair at the Stanford Bookstore (Student rental regalia available for order and pick up)
Wednesday, April 15 ( 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.): Grad Fair at the Stanford Bookstore (Student rental regalia available for order and pick up)
Thursday, April 16 (10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.): Grad Fair at the Stanford Bookstore (Student rental regalia available for order and pick up)
Friday, May 1: Student rental regalia shipping order deadline
Monday, June 1 – Sunday, June 14: Student rental regalia available for order and pick up
Those who missed the order deadline can still obtain regalia but will have to go to the bookstore in person between June 1 - 14 and select from open stock as it will not be reserved.
Faculty Deadlines
Monday, March 2: Faculty rental regalia pre-order opens
Friday, April 24: Faculty rental regalia pre-order deadline
Monday, June 8 – Friday, June 12: Faculty rental regalia pre-order distribution and open stock rentals available
Important Note: If you missed the order deadline you can still obtain regalia but will have to go to the bookstore in person from June 8-12 and select from open stock as it will not be reserved. Also, if any faculty member holds an advanced degree from another university the hood from their academic institution will longer be available. However, an official Stanford University hood will be provided to acknowledge the respective degree.

Available now: Stanford doctoral and Standard Fine Quality Regalia available for purchase (note orders placed after the May 1 deadline will not arrive in time for this year's ceremony)

Regalia Rentals
All graduates and faculty are required to wear a cap and gown (regalia) to process in the main Commencement ceremony and Baccalaureate celebration.
Student Regalia Rentals
Student regalia is available for rent in person at the Stanford Bookstore.

Faculty regalia rental cost is covered by the university.

- Important Note: Faculty who missed the order deadline can still obtain regalia but will have to go to the bookstore in person from June 8-12 and select from open stock as it will not be reserved. Also, if any faculty member holds an advanced degree from another university the hood from their academic institution will longer be available. However, an official Stanford University hood will be provided to acknowledge the respective degree.

Regalia Purchase Options
The Stanford Bookstore is the only authorized and licensed seller of Stanford regalia. Custom regalia is exclusively for purchase. In partnership with Jostens, the bookstore offers standard and custom Stanford regalia.

Rental Regalia Returns
Student returns:
Gowns can be returned after the ceremony to either the Stanford Bookstore (in front of the store) or to the Stanford Bookstore popup locations throughout the Stadium during the Sunday Commencement ceremony. Gowns, hoods, and PhD tams may be kept throughout the weekend’s festivities and should be returned by Monday. Mortarboards and tassels are yours to keep.
Faculty returns:
Gowns can be returned after the ceremony to either the Stanford Bookstore (in front of the store) or to the Stanford Bookstore popup locations throughout the Stadium during the Sunday Commencement ceremony. Regalia may be kept throughout the weekend’s festivities and should be returned by Monday.
